What?
Arduino boards are small physical computing platforms, consisting of a simple I/O board and an integrated development environment. Arduinos can be used to develop stand-alone interactive objects and can be connected to software on your computer as well.
The workshop starts from scratch - What is an Arduino, how does it work, how do I program it, how can I integrate it into my own projects? The day starts with a general introduction, and moves on to the hardware aspects of the Arduino, followed by a crash course on programming.
Please note that you are not going to work on your own project in this workshop, but you will learn all the basics you need to continue at home.
For who?
Artists, art students, computer scientists, hardware hackers, product developers, nerds, dancers - everyone is welcome. Some experience in programming and electronics comes in handy, but is not necessary.

Ubi de Feo of the 'Hello, Savants'! collective. Ubi is an interaction designer and Arduino expert.
What to bring?
You'll have to bring your own laptop to do your coding. We advise you to download the Arduino software and have a good look at it. Perhaps you can even start practicing a bit at home. You'll find all you need to know on arduino.cc. If there is a specific sensor or actuator you would like to use during the workshop, we advise you to bring it yourself.
Workshop price and Arduino kit
The workshop without Arduino kit costs € 75 incl. VAT. But of course you need a kit to participate. This means you have to buy the Arduino kit in advance. The handiest place to do that is at Floris.cc, the Arduino starter kit - flex is the one you need. The kit costs € 49,95 incl. VAT. (But excluding € 5 for shipping). Another place is Antratek where you can buy this kit or loose Arduino's and parts.
You have to make sure you have the kit before the workshop starts as we don't sell parts or Arduino's here at Mediamatic. Without the kit you can't participate!
If you already have an Arduino at home, then you can order all the loose parts at Farnell. Or find them at Floris.cc. You can also buy the parts in one of these stores in Amsterdam: Radio Rotor, Hecke or Muco. The following list on Sparkfun's website mentions all the items you need.
Information and registration
The workshop takes place from 10.00 - 17.00. Doors open at 09.30. We serve coffee, tea, soft drinks and cookies. Lunch is D.I.Y. Please buy your ticket by clicking on the magenta button at the top of this page.
