Hoe voelt het om een aardworm, bij, plant, of schimmel te zijn? Tijdens Dutch Design Week organiseren Mediamatic en Baltan Labaratories een grote verkleedpartij waar kunstenaars, ontwerpers, make-up aritists, en voorbijgangers worden uitgenodigd om zichzelf en elkaar te verkleden als de prachtige (dier)soorten die ons ecosysteem rijk is, en samen de biodiversiteit te vieren!

Mensen beginnen net de rijkdom van de biodiversiteit van onze planeet te ontdekken, en daarmee de waarde van elke individuele soort binnen ons ecosysteem. Tegelijkertijd is deze biodiversiteit in een groot tempo aan het krimpen. Hoe kunnen we uit ons antropocentrisch wereldbeeld breken en meer empathie leren voelen voor de andere soorten op de planeet? Kunnen we trainen de wereld vanuit een niet-menselijk perspectief te zien door onszelf in roze fluweel te wikkelen en zelf voor even bedreigde pink velvet worm te worden bijvoorbeeld?

Het 'biodiversiteit' kostuum lab op DDW

Tijdens Dutch Design Week zullen we een kostuumlaboratorium hosten waar we mode-ontwerpers, kunstenaars en ook jou uitnodigen om kostuums te maken van bijzondere soorten uit ons ecosysteem. Een week lang is er ruimte voor experiment en ontwerp-onderzoek om diverse soorten na te bootsen in stof en andere (duurzame)materialen. Ook zullen we een doorlopend programma hosten van masterclasses, workshops, lezingen en exposities rondom bio-diversiteit en ontwerp. 

Een kostuum van een paddestoel? Een masker met de geur van lathyrus, of schminken als een waterbeertje? van de gekste/mooiste/origineelste kostuums en technieken die in deze week voorbij komen, maken we instructables, die we zullen publiceren in een DIY-guide voor carnaval 2022, waar bio.diversifest zal worden doorgezet...

Hacking Carnaval 

Oorspronkelijk is carnaval bedoeld om de sociale structuren en vooral de hiërarchieën van de maatschappij af te leren. Door ons met maskers en outfits in te leven in een andere persona, kunnen we bestaande regels, structuren en overtuigingen. 

Met Inhuman Carnaval onderzoeken we of we een nieuwe laag kunnen toevoegen aan dit grootschalige escapisme. kan je actief opkomen voor biodiversiteit en je begrip voor de niet-menselijke wezens doen groeien terwijl je feest? Wij geloven dat het inleven in een soort en een kostuum te maken, een goed startpunt is om bewuster te worden van een groot abstract probleem, zoals het verlies van biodiversiteit.

Het is ons uiteindelijke doel om Carnaval 2022 te 'hacken' met zo veel mogelijk biodiversiteits kostuums. We willen een groot publiek activeren om zich als 'onmenselijke soort' te verkleden tijdens het feest. De DIY-guide met instructables die tijdens DDW wordt gemaakt is daarvoor het uitgangspunt.

Bugs & Buds bootcamp - Maybe a costume doesn't have to look like a different species, but it does make you feel like a different species. This may be because it manipulates or limits the movement you can do while wearing the costume. The workshop with Conny Groenewegen and Csilla Lakatos is primarily about empathy, but is strongly focused on experience, context and senses.
