Jan-Robert Leegte studied at the Rotterdam Art Academy after three years of architecture at Delft Polytechnic University. Aside from doing performances and installations he started making work for the Internet in 1997.
In his work he explicitly poses this question: "What is real and what is not real in the illusion that we perceive as reality?". As a result of his exhibition 'Abstraction now' in the Kuenstlerhaus in Vienna his work was once typified as an 'attack on the obvious'.
