I live and work in West Oakland, California. I recently founded the Hyphae Design Laboratory; a research and consulting firm dedicated to bridging the gap between architecture, open source building automation, environmental art and applied biological research. They are currently doing a diversity of projects from living roof design, to greywater system design, environmental sensor based public art installations and rural sanitation in developing countries. I am also a member of the greenmeme art collective in Los Angeles.
From 2005-2008, Iworked for Rana Creek, an ecological restoration and design firm based in Carmel Valley, California. He helped launch the Living Architecture department and served as its first design director. My work includes the design of institutional, municipal, commercial, and residential scale living roofs, ecological landscapes, rainwater catchment systems, living walls, greywater systems and constructed wetlands.
I am currently and artist-in-residence at The Fuse Center for Sustainability & New Media at San Jose State University, developing a 100-year "Climate Clock" for San Jose. He also teaches regenerative design at U.C. Santa Cruz and Merritt College in Oakland. He has taught workshops on living roof construction, stormwater management and earth building. I regularly lectures on diverse topics from architecture to entomology. Some of the locations where he has spoken or critiqued student work include U.C. Berkeley, Stanford, U.C.S.C., Cabrillo College, Sci-Arc,, University of Maryland, West Coast Green, Planit Green, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, and local USGBC and AIA Chapter meetings.
