Straw bale specialist René Dalmeijer gave us an informative talk on how to begin the building process. He explained the basics of straw bale building and answered our questions about this sustainable building method. Straw bale building is an easy and effective method to help you realize your project space so it's worth consideration not sure in what way you will build.
After a telling outcome during our last session, what we really wanted was time to talk to one another. After sitting down for some soup, participants asked others what they are really up to and found out who can help (or who may hinder) their projects being realized. There was diverse group of talented people available at hand and we were all able to better visualize our proposals.
Freezing Favela
Freezing Favela is a small city within Mediamatic Fabriek. Builders, cooks and other makes have been given the possibility to claim a part of the big industrial hall as their own. They work on their projects autonomously, but like in any other community, materials, space and functions have to be shared. Favela citizens are making tosti's from scratch, paper from cow shit, furniture from cardboard, and food from our very own aquaponics farm. And everyone is welcome to contribute. Build this city with us.

The Freezing Favela is a flexible space that is open for experimentation with new ways of building, growing, isolating, energizing and programming in winter conditions.
