He concentrated on press photography first and only later, after extensive travelling through Holland by camper started to put together several books of his photos i.e. Hollandse Taferelen and Aarsmans Amsterdam.
To these photos he added his own diary entries only to find that his writing began to take up more and more space.
Since then he has written several novels and plays and is always working on the next. He writes a weekly column about sports on TV for NRC Handelsblad under the ‘Zapman’ alias and he is a consultant at the Rijksacademy for the Visual Arts in Amsterdam.
