In the new series THE VOICE AS AN OBJECT, DE KIJDKOOS focuses on a selection of artists covered in METROPOLISM no: 4 2014. Five artists, all recent graduates from Dutch Academies, will each offer a show covering disciplines such as artists, writers, curators and initiatives, to encourage a collective energy.
THE VOICE AS AN OBJECT provides an international platform for young artists, to facilitate and share their creation of new work, an important value in relation with DE KIJKDOOS and other professionals in the field. Thus, THE VOICE AS AN OBJECT becomes a starting point for collectives to portray a voice in the context of their practice in DE KIJKDOOS. The series is a proposal on how DE KIJKDOOS can be viewed as an object. An object that witnesses its surroundings and contributes to it by capturing voices that harmonise with the all-pervasive sounds of the environment.

*According to the American Heritage Dictionary
If we closely look at the word travel, we realize that it holds in it, ravel.
The exhibition t-ravel looks into how traveling ravels us. Literally showing different layers of raveling through architectural renderings of exhibition spaces around the world, artistic travelogues, including notes and photos, and layerings of voice interventions by the artist that take us virtually into different geographical locations. As the artist becomes the guide to a world that is presented through a virtual raveling, we t-ravel.
This season DE KIJKDOOS offers a new side event, MEYHANE, which will follow each opening during THE VOICE AS AN OBJECT.
MEYHANE [mɛjhɑːnɛ]; is derived from the Persian words Mey (wine) and Hane (house).
MEYHANE is a traditional restaurant historically found in Turkey, Iran and the Balkan region. It is all about sharing a selection of mezes accompanied by alcohol, usually Raki, at large tables with friends. This, of course, includes lots of singing, eating and socialising with other tables; therefore providing a meeting point where thoughts and stories collide.
You are cordially invited to join us for our side event and listen to a story by Lora Sarıaslan at MEYHANE on 10 January.
Due to limited seating please RSVP before 8th January 2015 by emailing us at dekijkdoos.org@gmail.com.
